Never Settle for Scrubs That Unnerve Patients
Sunday, January 17, 2010 15:55The fact is, those medical professionals who wear the standard white and turquoise outfits that are commonly seen in the media often invoke a sense of panic in their patients without having the slightest intention of doing so. White coats and sterile white rooms have been associated with medical experiences for so long that patients regularly experience a rise in blood pressure at the mere sight of such apparel. This works against the care provider and does not further the relaxed emotional state needed to create a solid bond between provider and patient. With the new scrubs on the market today that are offered in such a wide selection of fashionable and savvy colors, there is no reason to settle for garments that run counter to the basic premise of relieving a patient’s anxiety for better healing.
Today’s patients really do expect to be treated more personably than in the past and they value the care givers who go the extra mile to show the thoughtfulness that tasteful nursing scrubs display. They want to be valued as individuals and the environment fostered by these better thought out uniforms provide a much better atmosphere for healing. This, along with the fact that the professional themselves can feel more relaxed in their own style rather than being a clone, helps the pro get more accomplished since they, too, are at ease. The level of quality goes up for all those involved and it is not uncommon for nurses employing these fashion choices to discover their treatments are far more effective after the switch from outdated uniforms.
