The United States likes to think that it is ranked number one in all categories, including health, but a new study has revealed that women in the US aren’t as healthy as doctors first thought. Compared o other developed countries, US women’s health profiles falls in at number 37. Even in the US women from some regions are far less healthy than those in the rest of the country. Then, when you compare race and wealth, poorer minority women are barely as health as women living in impoverished country.

Diet has a lot to do with the poor health of women in the United States, but they also show an aversion to certain types of exercise. Weight training and conditioning are frowned upon by most US women because they believe that it will leave them looking masculine. Women in the US also work sedentary jobs. When a person doesn’t have the opportunity to get up, stretch and walk around every few hours, all of the work put in at the gym can be completely fruitless.

Women are starting to take notice. Heart attack and cancer rates are up, and the life expectancy of women in the US hasn’t budged in years. Men in the US aren’t fairing much better, but for the first time in several decades, women are becoming less healthy. Even young women are more prone to be overweight in the US than in any other developed nation. Doctors hope that the results of this study will help women in the US to be motivated enough to make some major changes.
