Although people have known that they are required to get at least half an hour of moderately intense exercise, several times a week, a new study shows that it might be healthier to stand rather than to sit at a desk all day long. The results of several medical studies have prompted employers to take drastic measures. Some long-term employees have been complaining of back pain, cramps and even atrophied muscles.

In response, more ergonomic office supplies such as stability balls and even standing desks are being used in offices across the US. Gyms are being built in office buildings and employees are being encouraged to walk during their time off instead of sitting in designated break rooms. Although some employers are making a dedicated effort to improve the health profiles of their workers, these types of changes are just not practical in all industries. Some people will have to make a decision about their careers because their health is at risk.

Even healthy people might be at risk if they sit for more than four hours at a time. Getting up to walk around and stretch every few hours can provide workers with huge health benefits. Studies have also shown that sitting for extended periods of time can also have a negative impact on your mental health. Depression affects millions of Americans, primarily those who have moderately active lives and promising careers. The best thing that you can do is to talk to your doctor about the steps you can take to stay healthy.
